Critical Mass by Chairman Kato

Hackney Downs Studios would be a different place without Chairman Kato. 'Critical Mass' is his first solo exhibition, and will launch on 11th February at A-side B-side Gallery.

Kato has previously exhibited in a wide array of locations, from an abandoned railway arch in Hackney through to institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Oxo Tower. Critical Mass sees him unveiling his first collection of distinctively visceral paintings at the AsideBside Gallery, the flagship gallery at Hackney Downs Studios, where he is based.

Kato’s richly textural works explore the tensions between the emotional and the intellectual, the spoken and unspoken. His propensity to blur the lines between different disciplines reflects his diverse background as an artist, musician, public speaker and former doctor in Accident and Emergency.

The private view is on the 11th February from 6-9pm, the exhibition opens from 12th-16th February from 1-6pm.
