Eat Work Art SPOTLIGHT: Kong Studio

Kong Studio are a London-based animation and illustration studio crafting and elevating ideas from script to screen.

Eat Work Art caught up with the Hackney Downs Studios' based residents for our latest resident spotlight.

First of all, can you tell us a bit about Kong Studio?

Kong Studio is an animation studio specialising (if not exclusively) working in 2D animation. Our projects include series work, advertising, corporate and documentary animation.

We started in 2016, working from our desks and bedrooms in Walthamstow, and now reside in our beautiful Hackney Downs Studio.

What's your favourite aspect of your job?

The combination of pride and extreme jealousy you get witnessing our colleagues work at Kong. There is an abundance of freelance talent out there!

Any stand-out projects or things we can look forward to?

We are working on a very exciting Quentin Blake project through 2023. We also have a Thomas the Tank Engine series that we just wrapped.

Recent delivered projects include animation for the documentary Lucky! about the life and times of Bernie Ecclestone, and some lovely little animations for a Billy Connolly series.

Any recommendations for things to Eat, See and Hear in the local area?

On a rare foray out, we like to have a pint at the Hand and Glory Pub on Amhurst road. Lucky & Joy offers up amazing food, and JAM café has epic sandwiches that will leave you needing a sleep after.
