Hackney Downs Studios recruits zero-waste Re:Store to join their growing sustainable community
Zero waste shop Re:Store is set to open its first shop at Hackney Downs Studios on Saturday 16th February 2019.
What started as a new year's resolution to use less plastic for owner Megan Adams in 2018, using the ethos refill, reduce, reuse, Re:Store was born.
Nestled between The Well Garden, Public Gallery, El Garito cocktail bar, Low Company records, The London Loom and our resident cafe, Re:Store will offer a more conscious way to shop, with no single-use packaging in sight.
Customers will refill their own containers (or sustainable containers bought in store) with home and kitchen essentials ranging from wholefoods, nuts & seeds, herbs & spices, oil & vinegar, tea & coffee to organic cleaning products.
Also on offer will be an innovative range of sustainable lifestyle products from respected inspiring brands to the latest budding local producers...this includes the ever popular Elephant Box food containers, Chilly’s water bottles, Georganics dental range and award winning vegan cheese from Kinda Co, and championing Beeswax wraps made in Essex and natural soaps made in London.
Re:Store commitment to work with local suppliers sees them align with Mission coffee beans, roasted only a couple of miles away in Clapton and delivered by electric van, and Ombra premium pasta made in a local Italian restaurant in Bethnal Green. Hackney Downs Studios looks forward to supporting Re:Store in its future plans to host small events in collaboration with their growing community of local producers.
Zero waste shops and local sourcing are paving the way for change – and we’re delighted to be at the forefront of this much needed environmental focus. The residents and team at Hackney Downs Studio eagerly await Re:Store opening its doors.
As Rosie Joyce, Manager at Hackney Downs Studio explains, “We are really thrilled to have such an important business coming to Hackney Downs Studios. As a company we recognise the real problem with single use plastic and the visible impact on the streets of Hackney. We are very mindful of our environmental footprint and having Re:Store on site will increase our awareness even more and encourage our 450+ residents to do what they can also”.
